What do you think of Finnegan?

  1. We are having a little boy in a few weeks. My husband and I both love the name Finnegan. What do you think of it? It is a fairly rare first name, but seems to be gaining some popularity. I thought of it originally because my great grandfather's last name was Finn. The middle name would be William. We have a really short last name and I think it would be nice to have a longer first name to balance it out, although I expect he would end up with the nickname Finn.

We were also considering Maxwell as my 4 yr old daughter loves the name Max.

    What do you think?

  2. i think Finn William sounds nicer than Finnegan William...not sure why...just like Finn better.
    also Max is nice!

what about using William for the 1st name if you want a slightly longer 1st name?

William Finn or William Maxwell or William Finnegan or even William Max ?

  3. love finnegan/finn!!!!

  4. I don't like it, he will get teased with that name.

  5. I love the name Finnegan! Eh, kids can tease with any name. Finnegan's a unique first name, but not unheard of. I think Finnegan William sounds nice! We're actually considering it for another boy, too, so maybe I'm biased, but still...

  6. I like Finnegan. I do think it is getting more popular. I know an 8 year old girl named Finlay--they call her Finn sometimes. I think Finn fits a boy better, though.

  7. Finnegan reminds me of the silly childhood rhyme I learned: There was an old man named Michael Finnegan...

I like Finn William or William Finnegan - I don't think I'd use it for a first name.

  8. Thanks so much for all the replies! We don't want to use William as the first name because our last name sounds like a verb if it is pronounced correctly and so Will combined with our last name sounds really silly. Our last name also starts with a B so Bill or Billy with our last name sounds like too sing-song.

I am still leaning toward Finnegan as the first name (with Finn as his nickname) but we have a few more weeks to decide.

  9. Not keen on the name at all and it reminds me of Mr. Dressup's side kick..wasn't he finnigan?

But at any rate, congratulations on the upcoming birth of your little fellow.
