Rising HCG after Laparoscopy for Ectopic

  1. Does anyone know what this can mean? I'm getting follow-up done but I feel scared about this being something quite terrible. I had a lap done about 4 weeks ago, and have hcg monitoring. My levels decreased slowly from 681 to 111...I went in for bloodwork 4 days ago and my level went up to 619.

Is it possible to have residual tissue that keeps growing/dividing after a lap for an ectopic?

Thanks for any insight to anyone who is reading!

  2. Well, goodness. I just got the results from my latest u/s and I've got another ectopic, this time in the other tube. All this from an IVF! That's two ectopics, one in each tube, from one single IVF. What are the chances?

    I\'m beside myself.

  3. mereoni,

That's just incredible. I cannot believe it.
I'm F'ing speechless!!! This sounds so dangerous.

Are you going in for an operation? What if your beta were not being monitored?? Something terrible could have happened to you. Thank goodness it was detected.

Hope you are doing ok, you poor girl!

  4. I know, Ziggy, it's incomprehensible to imagine that two ectopics could happen with one IVF. I think simply it's not meant to be. I am wondering what karmic forces are at work here.
I don't know whether to get a laparoscopy done to remove the second ectopic, and while they're at it to remove my tubes, as for insurance purposes it wouldn't cost me very much, or just get the methotrexate shot and forget about TTC anymore.

  5. wow mereoni! I'm so sorry. What rotten luck. But lucky they found it. With my most recent ectopic I debated the same issue - have surgery to remove the tube while it was covered by insurance? in the end, I decided I didn't feel like dealing with recovering from surgery ( I have a weakness for oxcodone). still don't know if I'll cycle again...
an ectopic after IVF is a fecking bestard - physically, emotionally. double ectopic? that is just not fair. I'm sorry.

Thanks, epap, and it really stinks the huge rotten one. My Dr. called us and said that this one is for the books. A paper could be written on my ordeal as it's virtually unheard of to have two ectopics, 4 weeks apart, from one IVF.
