  1. Love the pix, love the captions. Love how Mintie goes from cute to snarky. As all good kitties and vets are wont to do.

  2. Mintie is quite the model - so cute! Thanks for sharing....

  3. Aww, the pink tongue! I love Mintie!

  4. I have passed all your comments on to Mintie, who doesn't seem a bit surprised at the admiration. EQ, we named her that after a New Zealand sweet - a peppermint that is something of a national icon, called a Mintie. Because, well, she's white and sweet (I know - you can puke now).

In an exciting development, we rang the shelter Mintie came from to ask about getting a little friend for her - well, kind of for us too; we need something good in our lives right now - and they said they have another white kitten with different-coloured eyes at the moment! So we're going to see him tomorrow. Purrrrrrrrrrr...

  5. LAKIS-Mintie is gorgeous. I have kind of a random question about her...growing up we had 2 cats---Big Trina and Little Trina (want to guess how/why I chose my screen name), and Little Trina looked EXACTLY like Mintie, all white with one blue eye and one green eye. She was also deaf and we were told that all white cats with one blue and one green eye are deaf its a genetic thing. Is Mintie? Just wonderin'

  6. Trina - Mintie definitely isn't deaf but there's something not quite right with her hearing - if there's a loud noise she looks in the opposite direction! (She understands "treats" and "dinner" just fine though.) I know that white cats are often deaf, but the woman at the shelter said both Mintie and the new kitten aren't "because they have one blue eye"...whatever that means! Do you have any pics of the Trinas???

  7. Aww. Mintie sure is a cutie pie.

  8. mmm - after checking out Mintie's pics - I think I want a cat!

  9. OMG, so adorable! I heart Mintie! (Pink paw pads are my weakness!)

  10. I have kind of a random question about her... we were told that all white cats with one blue and one green eye are deaf its a genetic thing. Is Mintie? Just wonderin\'

LAKIS, I heart Mintie too, and really hope you bring home a friend for her! Animal shelter stories with happy endings are high on my list of "things that are good."

And Trina, I'd heard that all white male cats with blue eyes were likely to be deaf (when I was little, this was the case for our neighbor's cat Henry). Here's an interesting webpage with genetic info regarding coat color, eye color, and deafness.. applies to both your Trinas and also to Mintie: messybeast.com

    An excerpt:
95% of the general cat population is non-white cats (i.e. not pure white) and congenital deafness is extremely rare in non-white cats.
5% of the general cat population is white cats (i.e. pure white). 15-40% of these pure white cats have one or two blue-eyes.
Of those white cats with one or two blue eyes, 60-80% are deaf; 20-40% have normal hearing; 30-40% had one blue eye and were deaf while 60-70% had one blue eye and normal hearing.
Of the 5% of white cats in the overall population, 60-80% had eyes of other colors (e.g. orange, green). Of those 10- 20% were deaf and 80-90% had normal hearing.
Deaf white cats with one or two blue eyes account for 0.25 - 1.5 of total cat population
Total number of cats with white coat and blue eyes account for 0.75 - 2.0% of total cat population

  11. spartinou...what is monkey bread?

Monkey Bread is a kind of breakfast thing. You make it with pillsbury biscuit dough, pull off pieces of it, roll them into balls, then dip in melted butter cinammon and sugar, throw them into a bundt pan, then drizzle the rest of the butter cinammon and sugar over it and bake. So yummy - like cinnamon rolls without the icing.

  12. I'm making a nice dinner. Husband on the way home, with flowers and a challah like he brings every Friday. Good wine and a cozy apartment. Sweet cat to keep me company while I cook. Nice plans with friends over the weekend. Not so bad.

  13. thanks for the Trinas and Mintie info., scuba.

What are you making and what does your cat look like?

  15. I am making lamb with chana dal (an Indian dish), plus a chopped salad with cilantro, and basmati rice, and raita. I think we'll have a nice big rioja with it.

Baked apples with maple syrup and bourbon glaze for dessert.

Cat is grey and offwhite stripes, she's the love of my life, her name is Ezzie (short for Esmerelda).

I do have a fabulous photos of her but I have to figure out how to post it.

I think we needs a vets with cats thread for sure.

  16. That dinner sounds scrumptious....you sound like quite the chef. I could use some lessons myself...

  17. What are you making and what does your cat look like?

the vet chatline version of "what are you wearing?"
    heh.

  18. Cooking is very therapeutic for me somehow. I get into this whole zen cooking vibe thing. Sometimes on the weekends I cook for hours and hours...

  19. the vet chatline version of "what are you wearing?" heh.Right after 'What're ya drinking'?

  20. Right after 'What're ya drinking\'?

So, EQ, are you gonna join us on the drinking thread or what?!

  21. the vet chatline version of "what are you wearing?" heh.

    what\'s your cat wearing?

    Spartali-dinner sounds fab.

  22. mmm, yeah, that dinner sounds delicious.

Spartali, my dh is like you - he cooks for relaxation. And he's a really good cook. I could definitely use a few cooking lessons though.

My cat is wearing ... nothing but a purr.

  23. I got a big box today (music stand delivered via UPS) and of course Ezzie the Wonder Cat made it her home. I can't bring myself to throw it out.

  24. What about a vets with dog thread? Rudy, my newly adopted 4yr old beagle feels left out...

  25. Keep your smelly poopy dogs away from my cat. :-)
