Ovulate before trigger?

  1. I'm sorry this is about IUI and not IVF but the IUI board is very slow. So I hope someone can help!

I am doing an IUI inject cycle this month. I went in Thursday after 5 days of meds for an US. I had 2 follies 11 and 13 and E2-309. I was surprised that they didn't want me to do another US before triggering. They told me to do 3 more nights of meds and take the trigger Sun and come in Tues for IUI. I've been checking OPK's and today (Sat) I had a blaring positive one. I don't know what to do, I don't want do the trigger and IUI if I'm already going to ovulate. What should I do?? I have short cycles 25 days and know that I usually ovulate a little early..

I tried calling my dr's office but I don't "qualify" for a call back. I just think I should cancel the IUI if I've already ovulated.

    Please anyone with advice!

  2. You don't qualify for a callback? What on earth does that mean? Call back and insist on a callback. Call every 10 minutes until somebody calls you back. That is outrageous.

  3. This may be a bit nutty, but if you are comfortable doing so...you could show up tomorrow with your OPK and your partner's specimen, and explain that no one would call you back, but here you are for IUI. I know my RE's office gives IUI patients the option of US/lab monitoring OR home OPKs to time IUI, so it seems reasonable.
I agree with NYC, how could they not call you back?!? Time for a new RE?

  4. You don't qualify for a call back? Huh? If you're ovulating in the midst of your cycle, that qualifies as an emergency! If you don't have blocked tubes or a frozen pelvic or major MF, then I'd start having sex! I'd cancel the IUI and start looking for another clinic where an emergency qualifies for a call back...

  5. RUN! You need to get a new RE who will listen to you or at least call you back. WTH will "qualify" you for a call back? I would have s-e-x and cancel the IUI.

When I was doing IUIs, I had US before triggering, and with another RE, I did OPKs and when it was + I went in for an US/IUI.

  6. Thanks Ladies. I called again tonight and was able to get a nurse practitioner to call me back. Worthless... She doesn't know me or have my chart so I will have to call Monday morning when the office opens. She said "just follow the plan". I asked if I could go in for an US tomorrow. "Tomorrow is Sunday, we don't do US's!" I said "oh, you don't do any US on Sunday?" She said If I had one scheduled already but otherwise "no". I did take my meds tonight but I don't want to waste my $100 ovidrel tomorrow night if I've already ovulated!! This is all OOP too.

  7. If you get in there Monday and it turns out you ovulated, after you've made these calls and alerted them....demand all your cycling money back for this time and get yourself a new RE.

Or else just show up tomorrow and make a big fuss and insist on getting an ultrasound and bring your partner with you in case you have to insist on doing an IUI on the spot.

I agree with both points! As for demanding your money back--I would put that in writing and send that letter certified. Dumb jerks!

  9. That is outrageous. Run! And definitely demand your money back if they've screwed up your cycle.

Seriously? Did you tell the NP that your ovaries don't know how to "just follow the plan" or schedule? This is freakin' mother nature we're talking about! If you just showed up tomorrow for a sono, is there going to be anyone there to do an IUI if you're ready to ovulate? I'd insist for an RE to call you back tomorrow AM. Does the RE or NP do the IUI at your clinic? Mother nature doesn't wait for business Monday to do her thing...

The Dr's do the IUI's. The NP was totally clueless. It ticked me off that she kept bringing up "emergency", WTF?? I went to the office this morning and no one was there I also tried calling again and no call back. I have 2 hours to decide if I want to trigger and show up in the AM or just call this cycle finished...

Wow, don't tell me this clinic is in NY?!??! What did you decide? I hope you they give you a refund, those jerks.

  13. What clinic is this???

  14. ck--ugh, this is sooooooo frustrating. IF is a 24/7 business. they botched your cycle and owe you your $$ back. Let us know what happens today! Good luck!

  15. I'm sorry I didn't see this message sooner. You should have triggered as soon as you got a very positive opk and then gone in in 24 hours for an IUI. If you can have sex, do it! Triggering now couldn't hurt, but you will ovulate sooner than your scheduled IUI, so I wouldn't bother with that (unless it's completely covered). I agree that you should find a new RE. That's ridiculous!

  16. What a nightmare!!! What a joke!! The office is not in NY, it's in FL! Ughhh. Whole cycle is screwed up because of improper monitoring!!

I ended up triggering last night and went in early this AM for an US. Get this! Oh, no you didn't ovulate, you have a nice looking 14mm and a 12.5 mm follicle! WTF!! I had an 11 and a 13 four days ago!!!! They acted like I was crazy! If I didn't O by some slim chance, my follicles stopped growing and I never should have triggered! The dr came in and told me not to check OPK's because one of the drugs I used had LH in it so it's not accurate. Ok, but the 1st 7 days I was on it, it just didn't show up in my urine!

The dr said "you're fine" blah, blah, blah. I said well I triggered last night. He said "why'd you trigger?" I said you guys told me to!!!!! WTF!! I said do you want to get labs? "Oh, that won't tell us anything". WTF??? Uh, a P4 will tell if I already ovulated!.

I left there so disgusted. They were totally lying to me and trying to cover it up. I don't even know if I believe the tech who said I didn't ovulate!

Summerwind, they would not even talk to me over the weekend so there was no way in hell they would've done an IUI over the weekend!

As far as paying for it, I didn't say anything about it. I will probably delete this part soon. They make you have a credit card "on hold" or they won't even see you. They only charged me my $30 copay because they were going to try to bill insurance. I have diagnostic coverage but no IUI coverage. I'm ready to "lose" my card and when they come back for the money, I'll tell them to shove it! The funny thing is- my charges wouldn't be so bad because they didn't hardly monitor me! Ughhh!! I'm just out all the menpur and bravelle

I have a friend that goes there and she emailed me today telling me "the plan" I should use for my next cycle there! Uh, I don't think so!

I already made an appt with another dr and I'm thinking of getting a consult from a SIRM dr. Any recommendations??

Sorry for going on and on but at least you guys can thank God you have a better dr than I did!

  17. Me thinks you ovulated and they were looking at the follicles that were smaller at your previous US and grew now.

Not only could they have checked for your P4 but could've also looked at your LH (within 48 hours after O) from your lab.

I would do the same thing about your CC. Sorry you have a dumb a$$ for an RE which resulted to this disppointment.

  18. CK... Sorry... My RE doesn't check my LH levels with my cycles b/c I'm on Menopur. Instead, he checks my P4 level to see if it's on the rise indicating going to ovulate or have ovulated... So what now? Since you've already triggered, are you coming in for an IUI, or was the cycle canceled? Glad you're shopping for a new RE!

  19. I\'m just out all the menpur and bravelle!

For that reason, alone, they owe you another IUI cycle FOR FREE (no submitting to insurance, if it takes away from a cap)---assuming you still want to cycle there. I would put all these issues in writing and/or demand an explanation for these fukkups. Sorry!

  20. I woke up this morning and I was so mad!!! I think it just hit me today! I should've demanded to be monitored more but WTF were they thinking???? They charged my cc yesterday for the US. My copay and I just cancelled it. Screw them, if they expect me to pay anymore for this they are nuts!

Should I write a letter to the dr? What should I do? Call him? I'm really ****** off! Not only was my cycle wasted but they were trying to act like "everything was ok". The dr told me the reason my follicle was only a 14 was because of the ovidrel. What a lie!!! I'm 38 and a half and each month is very important. Ughhh, I'm just so ******! I don't even know if I'd want a free cycle there!

  21. I wouldn't cycle there again if I were you...but I'd for sure get some money out of them. Threaten to sue them. Write everything down that happened and then demand to speak to the doc in person. Bring your documentation with you and then demand that they pay for the cost of your meds and reimburse you for all your costs of the cycle.

  22. Should I write a letter to the dr? What should I do? Call him?

If you are finished with this RE, then write a letter ASAP (so that all the details/dates/phone calls are still fresh in your memory) (send it certified/RE needs to sign for it). In that letter, tell them that they botched your cycle, and you do NOT owe them any money for this cycle and that you want a COMPLETE copy of all of your medical records! Its not YOUR job to manage this cycle, that was supposed to be your RE's job.

  23. Like Lotus and NYC said... write your letter stating the facts and how it adversely impacted your cycle. I somehow doubt that they'd refund your money, so you might get a free IUI cycle. It's probably better that they just replace the meds you've used for a poorly managed and canceled cycle and go elsewhere...

  24. I agree - send a letter to the practice manager stating what happened. I did that for a botched endometrial biopsy and didn't have to pay a thing. I think the practice manager can be a little more objective and wants to keep patients happy.
