November cycle DE buddies needed

  1. The only thing I have taken thus far is the lupron depot shot on Monday. I will start estrace as soon as I get my period. My donor starts stims Oct. 23! I'm soooooo excited and SOOOOOO nervous! I'm so afraid that it's just going to crush me (worse than usual) if this doesn't work. Trying to think positive...

I did not have to go through counseling! Good luck to all of you!

  2. I went in for my mock lining check today and it went from 2.8 to 10 so they gave me the green light to go! I'm getting my calendar later today so I'll check back. Feeling very excited and hopeful!

  3. Heather - I feel the same "nervous & excited." This is suppose to be the answer to our prayers and if it doesn't work then what...ughhh. I have to constantly remind myself to be optimistic. It's hard to do when 6 yrs have passed and still no baby.

ajs - great news, keep us posted.

Claire - based on today's exchange rate, it's $7151. By law, the clinic can't compensate the donors. Instead, they are reimbursed for their time and suffering (based on what others have shared, it's about $750, about a month Czech salary). I'm very thankful that there are women who are willing to do it because they are our only hope.

Counseling is not required for the clinic. I did talk to a psychotherapist before moving on to DE. I didn't find it helpful, luckily it was 2 free sessions. I had to do a lot of soul searching to get to this place and I'm glad DH has always been by my side. This message board also played a major role in helping me find closure and move on to DE. Thanks to all the women that shared their experiences, they are my angels.

November is almost here, keep us posted with your cycles. Goodluck to all of us.

  4. Hi girls -

So my calendar has me doing no birth control or lupron - have you heard of this before?

They want me to start the provera tonight to bring on my cycle then I just stay on the estrogen patches until the transfer which would be the week of Nov. 15 or 22 and then start the progesterone.

This is my first ever ivf cycle so I'm a newbie at all this.

    thanks !

  5. Hi Ladies!

LA is having a swine flu epidemic probably b/c the cold weather finally but briefly arrived. (Our temps are back in the 90's again.) One of our clients have it and she said she had to take Vicodin for the aches that Nyquil didn't treat. Yet the local drs. aren't letting their kids get vaccinated b/c the vaccine is new and they're afraid of the unknown potential side effects.

I found out one of our clients had done eight cycles and have spent over $200,000. They had twins on the eighth cycle using GIFT and a new RE after having seven unsuccessful tries with the first RE.

Am I the only one using IM estrogen instead of estrogen patches?

    Claire-Woohoo! Here we go!
I just signed a clinic document that discloses all the Lupron side effects and it mentioned hot flashes. I hope it'll go away for you soon.

Mags-You'll be flying to Prague in less than a month. Wow. Does the clinic provide you with an interpreter for everyday stuff? Or are there are lot of english speakers there? Will you be able to bring the frozen embies home? (I hope I'm not asking too many questions.) I asked my clinic and they charge $3,800 per frozen cycle plus $800 meds. I'm hoping I'll have some embies to freeze. If not, this'll be my last try. I'm getting too old for this.

Heather-Only a few more weeks before ER!

AJS-This is the first time I've heard of no BC or Lupron. I hate needles so I wish I didn't have to do Lupron.

  6. What is up with this LA weather? It was rainy and cold earlier this week then back to our typical hot and dry day. Yeah, this swine flu scares me, esp. before cycling. Trying my best to stay healthy and avoid crowded places. I'm a little concerned about our 15 hr flight. I guess I can always wear a mask.

Lacy - wow, 8 cycles to have her babies, good for her. I don't think I can emotionally handle that. Do you work in a doctor's office (hope you don't mind me asking)?
I'll be on estogen pills and patches (don't know why I'm doing both). Why are you doing IM? Is it related to the nausea?

Yup, our trip is getting closer and I'm becoming more anxious. Just worrying about the logistics. No, we won't have an interpreter. Others have said that there are no language problem in Prague, only in the smaller towns. The clinic also assigns us an international nurse and doctor who are well versed in English. Unfortunately, we cannot bring home the frozen embies (I wish). If we do get some frozen, it will only cost us 1000 euro + my meds to do FET. Crossing my fingers that this cycle works and we'll only go back for siblings. Btw, I don't mind the questions at all, bring them on.

ajs - I know 2 women that didn't have to take bcps or lupron. Their donors took the bcps to sync with their cycle. I didn't need to be on bcp either but I wanted to make sure that our dates were somewhat locked in since we're travelling so far. I didn't want any delays or surprises.

    Have a great weekend ladies.

  7. Wow! $200,000! Yikes! I try to not even think about what we have spent over the 8 (!) years of our infertility. It just would make me too depressed. My husband always says that if we ever have a baby, we are not going to be able to afford to raise it! Ha.

I am just so ready for my donor to start stims, so I will know how she is going to respond. Ugh. I hate waiting.

  8. Mags-I wish I didn't have to take Lupron. I hate needles!

I work in a tax office. I got the info from my friend who was looking into taking the vaccine.

I've always take estrogen via IM. Grrrr...

Heather-I didn't even think about my donor not responding to stims. I'd be sooo bummed. I'm trying not to think. I'm leaving everything to my DH. I just take the shots. I guess since this is my third try I'm bracing myself by not having too much expectations.

  9. Mornin!

well I stop the BC today but continue with lupron. I wish I understood what was gonna happen to my insides, Af etc, I only remember all the meds to grow follies etc with ivf. What happens to them?? I am gonna call my nurse tomorrow!
I was reading the sept cycle gals and there are many of them who get money back, multiple tries etc...Mags, Heather, lacy, ajms and the rest??What are you in for?
I am also anxious and cant imagine having Thanksgiving either being optimistic or miserable with the outcome.
Us girls are crazy with the way we think huh??
Its rainy and 45 here (COLD) very dif from Cali. Whats the weathere in Prague or Chez??

  10. My clinic doesn't offer anything in the way of shared risk, money back, etc. I did get a really great deal on meds through a pharmacy at a hospital that serves very poor patients. All of my/donors meds cost only $2400. That was the lupron depot, follistim, ganirelix, pio, estrace, antibiotic, etc. That's the cheapest I've ever gotten meds. I had to pay $4000 to the donor, plus $1000 deposit. Will owe approximately $12,000 at the end of the cycle. If I pay off that balance within 30 days, I'll get a 20% discount. So, I will definitely be doing that! That's a big chunk of change.

  11. Hi Claire,

I am with you on thinking ahead about Thanksgiving. Our ER is scheduled for 11/5 so we will know before Turkey day. I can't even begin to think about all the what ifs.

As for the $$ aspect, we are kind of screwed- sorry- don't know what else to call it. Because we are using a carrier and DE, our clinic ORM will not let us into their refund program. Their position is that two many people are involved and they do not want to be held responsible for the carrier not following through- grrrrrrrrrr.

Let's hope it is a non issue!
    Good luck to to all.

  12. I had forgotten how bad lupron makes me feel! I went shopping with my mom today, and I felt like an old woman! Now that we're home, I can barely move. My legs are so achy, and I just feel blah. Hate this stuff!

  13. Claire-We're in it for $27,025 including meds. Our RE offers a 100% refund for $16,800 but I figured we won't need it since our donor is very young. If my next cycle is a frozen then it's cheaper to not have the guaranteed plan. Also we're doing a single embryo transfer so I didn't bother asking.

    Here's the breakdown:

$11,800 (instead of $16,800) includes all monitoring visits for donor and recipient, all monitoring ultrasounds, 4 estradiol levels, 3 pg tests, supplies, egg retrieval and ET.

    $600 anesthesia (per retrieval)
    $1,500 ICSI
    $135 mock embryo transfer
$720 Infectious disease screening for both
    $250 donor health exam
    $250 donor genetic testing
    $635 donor pre-cycle testing
    $835 donor FDA screening
    $5000 donor fee
    $3000 agency fee
    $2,300 meds

    $800 freezing embryos (if applicable)

  14. i'm another nov. cycler! i just cycled in sept. with DE and got a bfn (i had a +hpt and small beta number which dropped). dh and i started our IF journey 4.5 years ago. after 6 iui's and 3 ivfs with OE (and eventually a BT diagnosis), we first tried DE with my older sister 2 years ago and dd was born last summer. dh and i both wanted to give her a sibling, so RE said to cycle again soon after dd arrived, since my sis is almost 40. after tx 3 beautiful looking 8-cell embies in sept., we were crushed to hear of the bfn. there were 2 frosties though, which are blasts, that we will be doing a FET with on 11/23. (i think around the same time as diana and dreamer?) if my bw is ok i'll be starting lupron on 10/23. although my sis offered to cycle with us again (bc she's an angel), dh and i agreed that financially, emotionally, etc. we have come to the end of our IF road and if we get a bfn this time we are done. (honestly, in the back of my mind i don't know if i'll be ready to accept that, but i know that we are blessed just to have dd in our lives).

  15. Welcome ELENI. So sorry about your BFN, but really glad you have some frozen embies to use! My sister offered to be my donor, but my RE did not like her age (38). He said he "would" do it, but I had reservations. She had trouble getting pregnant with the 3 she has...nothing major, just clomid, and her advanced age, so I chose an anonymous donor. Now I'm kind of wishing I had used her.

Anyway, glad you joined us here! Good luck!
    Heather

  16. hello ladies, don't start the party without me!

we're getting ready to start our first (& hopefully last) DE cycle. i'm 37 w lousy eggs and DH is 41 w severe MF...we did three IVFs this year with no luck, i'm a high responder but we never even had one emby make it to ET. we did all the dna, fragmentation etc sperm tests and we know our chances aren't great even w DE but we wanted to give it a shot.

we chose an agency donor who'll fly to NYC to cycle w our RE. this will be her fifth cycle and 6 kids, two sets of twins, have resulted from her prior donations. so at least we know that one of us is fertile

i'm just waiting for AF and then the calendars will get updated but we're targeting ER around Nov 11. why on earth did i invite DH's family for Thanksgiving this year??!

  17. hello ladies, i just did a quick read through the thread and there are 11 of us in total. will you pls copy below and update w your estimated ER date so we can keep cheering each of us along. ours is 11/10 but if my AF doesn't show up soon it could be later.

  21. Hi, can I join you guys too.

I have been on the Sept thread, I did my first DE in Sept with Sister's eggs and it was a BFN. My sister offered to go through it again so we are getting ready to start any day now. ER should be either last week of Nov. first week of Dec. This will be my 5th fresh IVF. Did 4 fresh and 2 frozen with OE and my first IVF resulted in a DD that we lost at 16 weeks. This will be the last time we use my sister. Even though I know she would offer, we just can't ask her to do that again.

I am a little worried about cycling around the holidays but it is what it is. Maybe it will keep our minds off of everything!

So just waiting on sis to get her AF so we can get this show on the road.

    ELENI and Mairead, Hi!

I hope everyone has a great day!

  22. Hi everyone! Just wanted to give an update which is no update.....I am still waiting to be matched and I hope it's soon so I can start BCP with my next AF. I doubt that will happen though since AF is expected to rear her ugly head in a week. I may be a December cycle but I will still hang around on this thread!

  23. Welcome mairead and deswill!

Bella, I may just beat you! : ) Looks like we are going to be right in there together! Glad to have so many of us. I just pray that we are all celebrating great news soon!

  24. Well, I was not planning on telling anyone at work that I was doing ivf. (work as a speech pathologist in the school system) Really wasn't even going to tell close friends this go around. I just don't like being asked constantly about it! However, I just got an email from our director telling me that I had been nominated to go to a dyslexia conference in Orlando on November 10, 12, 13, 14. I eamiled back that I really appreciated the offer, but I couldn't go, and I felt I just had to say why. I told him that I was having a procedure done to try to have a baby, but that was all I said. So, now I"m sure he will ask the other speech path, who happens to be a very close friend of mine, and I will have to end up telling her! It would probably work out for me to go, as I'm supposed to have tx around the 7th or 8th, but I don't want to take ANY chances!

  25. I am looking forward to starting those stinging lupron shots on Friday - which is my 5th year anniversary - how romantic! I know I should have already started pnv and folgard, but I just can't bring myself to start.
