  1. This is my first IVF cycle. My retrieval was yesterday. Only 4 eggs were retrieved and of them 2 were fertilized. I'm waiting to hear if they split tomorrow morning and then hopefully going in for the transfer on Saturday. I am an emotional wreck, excited and nervous, hopeful and scared. Any advice or words of wisdom for staying calm through all of this?

  2. jk - I'm not sure of your history (whether your low response was a surprise or not) but I too ended up with my first cycle with 3 mature eggs with only 2 fertilizing.

Prior to that I had no indication that my IVF experience would be that of a poor responder (we had MF to start with).

After that failed cycle I came across some words of advice that I wish I had heard before because for so many its so true.

Think of IVF as a marathon rather than a sprint. Often your first cycle is your RE getting to know you and how your body works. If you find success on your first try, consider yourself lucky. If not, consider yourself part of the majority.

I wish you much success that things work out for you this cycle but please keep in mind, that no matter the outcome, the next time you go through this it will be a better experience because your RE knows so much more than they did the first time around.

    Good luck

  3. Just want to wish you lots of words of wisdom because I go for my ER next Wednesday (if everything goes well). I know how you feel though. I'm super excited and super nervous. This is the only time I'm going to do this because we were out of pocket for this entire process. My insurance didn't cover a penny. We can't take the financial burden or the emotional burden again if it doesn't work this time. All I can do is hope for the best and try to remember......what's meant to be will be.

    Good luck!

  4. This is my first cycle, so I was not sure how I would respond. I'm happy that we have two and not zero. We are also in a similar situation. This is our only shot for now until we save up more money if a future cycle is needed. Thanks for your support.

  5. Hi. I'm on day 7 of stims in my first IVF cycle. I'm not sure I have any "advice" per se. However, I can say that I know of two different women who got pg from IVF with less than 4 eggs retrieved. It does happen.
