  1. Curious Just a quick reminder that newborns have a layer of brown fat which helps them stay warm. This will soon go away. It's been years since I have practiced nursing and I have never really worked with newborns but I do know you have to be careful not to overheat the newborn. Mine are due in June and although it can be hot outside we have central air and it stays cool 24/7. I keep our house at about 72 and will put the babies in a sleeper and then swaddle with the light wrap. The best you can do is go by what you are wearing to bed and how many covers you use. If your twins sleep together they will be sharing body heat too. I hope this helps a little bit. Jane

  2. Curious, I am a first timer and am planning to use the Halo sleepsack saddle for at night when it is colder at night.

They come in cotton or fleece. I plan to use the cotton ones during the summer and the fleece ones in the winter. Since you are not supposed to use blankets the sleepsack keeps them covered without the risk of SIDS.

    Check out their website...www.halosleep.com

I have a friend who loved these as it kept her babies from wiggling out of their swaddle.

  3. Thank you both! I hadn't realized that they had them in cotton and didn't know about the layer of fat disappearing.

  4. ok girls making grocery list for the week. give me some dinner ideas...lol for what its worth its gonna be rainy and snowey all week except today and tomorrow. pretty sure we're doing steak on the grill today.

  5. Sorry Lori, I can't help you with your list as I am getting more and more nausea fits. This happened with my 5yo son. Never lost it but always felt sick. Food is not what it used to be. I can't even tune into Andrew Zimmern.

  6. Lori: I'm sorry to hear your back is hurting. As for the aching inside the belly, I'm pretty sure I'm feeling the same thing. My take is just that the babies are growing faster than the flesh wants to stretch.

The most difficult thing for me now is that I've developed pregnancy-related carpal tunnel syndrome. Anyone else dealing with this? Since I'm a computer programmer and have dealt with bouts of tendonitis before, I thought I knew what that meant when various people or literature warned me about that possibility. Oh, h***, no. Have seen my acupuncturist once and got some night time sleep braces that help a lot, but what I'm hearing is that unless you get cortisone shots, you really just have to put up with it.

daffy125: My navel is getting shallower by the day, but still hanging in there.

All: A friend who sells clothes on eBay sent me a Care package, including an X-large nightgown and some XX-large sports bras. Just getting over the cold, it was more the not having to go out to buy them than being spared the expense that matters.

When I go to bed with a Breathe-Rite strip on my nose, \"Frownies\" patches on my forehead, and the wrist braces, I feel as though I'm channeling James Arness as the \"Thing from Another World.\"

And the OB asked me in all seriousness, \"Mama Margaret [he's west African], are you feeling cranky?\" U/S and Rhogam shot next week.

  7. Maggie, bedtime is such an issue. My husband can no longer sleep with me as I have taken up the fine art of snoring on my sides. It's very loud. Also, I have about 6 pillows in bed with me. Every turn is an ordeal. I wore the wrist bands but my hands swelled up. My nose, well even after rhinoplasty, the strips don't work right. What's a Frownies patch? While we're at it, what belly cream is everyone using? At the rate I'm going I should invest in some belly butter. My breasts are starting to leak a little bit too. Painting a lovely picture for all of you? I am getting my hair done tomorrow, that's something normal! Jane 23w! gg

  8. Maggie, so sorry about the carpal tunnel. I don't know much about the condition or what could help.

JRM, sorry you are so achey. I was worried DH would kick me out of the bed this weekend when I was in a lot of pain and tossing and turning. He mentioned how he didn't get a lot of sleep another night and was stressed. However, one night I was in our recliner (which isn't a really sturdy lazy boy so I wouldn't dare sleep in it) I was sort of groaning because I couldn't find a comfortable position. I couldn't exactly identify where the pain on the right side was coming from or how to stop it. It was all generally dispersed and invisible strain. DH said let's go downstairs and I'll give you a massage. A bit of oil and a good 20-30 min and I was MUCH better. Was able to sleep that night and the right side pain subsided to a manageable level. Now it's my turn to give him a massage. He said somehow he strained his left side at the gym and remarked maybe it was a sympathy pain. I hope the fact that I\"m going back to work part time won't cause me additional strain/pain.

I'm going to see a physical therapist on Wed and will let you guys know if there are any good exercises. Keep in mind that my pain is mostly in my butt and occasionally slightly lower back but not really. I took a bath for the \"last\" time for a while. Kind of hard to maneuver but I loved the short soak in not too hot but very warm water. I also got a chair for the shower. Was having trouble reaching my feet safely.

    Hope everyone is well!

Jane, I am using Revitol in the mng and Belli Elasticity Belly Oil in the evenings.

  11. daffy125 I'm in the same boat: my husband and I are actually estranged right now, so we're sleeping apart for that reason, but we'd be sleeping apart anyway. Like you, I'm using five pillows plus some old sofa pillows to try to get comfortable. Frownies patches are these little adhesive paper patches that you use to prevent wrinkles.

I'm using Tummy Honey Butter and Weleda Pregnancy Oil.

The good news is that despite the edema, my BP was normal when I went to the pulmonologist my OB/GYN wanted me to see about my asthma, despite them having pumped me up with albuterol as part of the respiratory function tests. The bad news is he wants to see me every month, too!

  12. Maggie, glad the BP is ok. That's the important metric. Sorry to hear about the asthma. I had it as a child and was miserable. Do you know if you are allergic to something? Have you tried washing your pillows very frequently and using a microfiber pillow case beneath your regular pillow case? I also use hypoallergenic pillows vs. down.

JRM, unfortunately, no silver bullets from the physical therapist. In fact, I only intend to go back one more time (more out of obligation) as I don't think subsequent visits are worth the cost. He checked out my alignment and said everything was fine. Then he put a superduper heating pad on my butt. Then he massaged it. To be honest, I was slightly embarrassed. While he put a sheet over me and my pants were down, he pushed the panties down too for the massage. He did hit the right spots but I was thinking $90 each time when DH should do this. Then while I was on my back, he put a hard piece of board under my butt and then a triangular wooden block under each hip with the wider part on the outside. This was just to stretch the pelvis.

One exercise he did teach me was lying on my back, with my knees bent (feet on the floor). He put an exercise ball between my knees (or one could use a pillow) and asked me to squeeze three times and hold on the third squeeze. Then I had to tighten and then lift my pelvis and then relax. I told him I felt a little pain in the tailbone when doing that and he said if I tightened more before lifting it would help and it did. The root cause of mine pain is likely the ligaments stretching to prepare for child birth and then getting sore.

So I had my blood test for my application for life insurance. It said glucose normal. I'm hoping this means that I pass my 1 hr glucose test in two weeks. Had a scan yesterday. Baby A measuring 1# 6 oz and Baby B 1# 4 oz. I think that's what they mean vs. 1.6 pounds. At any rate, that's slightly above where they should be so I'm happy. Still trying to eat.

Really tired since I started my part-time job. Plus, I want to put some things on the registry by this weekend. Hi to e/e!

  13. Hi ladies. Sounds like everyone is moving along! I am excited today, as I have officially made it to 30 weeks. I tried to give myself little milestones to look forward to and this was one of the bigger ones I could barely forsee when I started having problems before Christmas. Even though my placenta previa is still complete, it has not caused further issues and I am just praying it doesn't do something different at this point in the game.

I am now going in for weekly monitoring, but they stopped checking my cervix last month since it was always long and closed and well past a 4.5 in length. The monitorings just look for accelerations in the boys heartrates, for contractions, and then a quick followup ultrasound to look for appropriate fluid. So far, so good. I have had some contractions, but they (of course) are always in the evenings when I am at home.

My last day of work before my leave is tomorrow. I will spend March just \"resting\" at home and hope to schedule an amnio for 36 weeks to look for lung maturity so I can have a c-section. (My peri and OB are both out of town right now, so it makes me a little nervous!)

And just as in my last pregnancy, I am starting to lose a little weight and taper off. I have only gained one pound in 5 weeks, but I know my tummy is getting much bigger. I have gained about 31 pounds total right now, but I did start off heavier than I would have liked thanks to those lovely months of IVF meds.

How is everyone feeling? Getting *stuff* ready?

  14. Irish YEAAH! congrats. I set milestones for myself too. mine were 8w,12w,20w and one coming up is 24w. I was at the doc's office yesterday for my thyroid and diabetes and the lady in the waiting room started asking questions about my pregnancy. Standard stuff, is this your first, how far along and do you know the sex. Then she asked do twins run in your family. Inside I had a good little laugh and said, \"I don't know I was adopted.\" Even though I know my history and have met my birth family and there are no twins the answer I gave was short and sweet. In some sick way I am thrilled to be answering these nosey questions that delve into my fertility issues. The fact of the matter is I'm pregnant with twins! How exciting is that?! Jane 23w3d gg (almost 24 weeks)

  15. OMG Jane I love that answer....lol

    Hi Jane,
thanks for sharing. Just an FYI...for singleton pregnancy full term is 40 weeks but for twins 37 weeks is considered full term.

  18. It says my due date is June 1st
