Identical twins questions? Different growth rates?

  1. This is an FET cycle for us. We transferred one blastocyst -- just one, because we hope for a singleton.

At my first u/s (5w6d), we saw one heartbeat (thrilled!). The RE also spotted a \"secondary yolk sac.\" He said that the blast had definitely split, but that it wasn't clear that there would be a second heartbeat. He said it was early; I go back in a week for a follow-up u/s.

Does this ring familiar to anyone? What are the chances that the second, would-be identical twin, would have a delayed-in-appearing heartbeat?

    Many thanks for any insights.

  2. tarek_f- First of all congrats on your pregnancy. If they put 1 in it is definitely identical twins. It maybe just a week or so behind, that is ok.

I am 20 weeks with triplets. we only put 2 in and 1 split in to identical twin girls.

Good luck to you and please keep posting.

  3. Jose, thanks for your message. And congratulations to you. That's a lot to carry (no pun intended).

I will keep posting on where this goes for us.

I should add that DD is 4 yo (fresh IVF cycle), DS is 2.5 (FET cycle). At this point, twins scare me.

  5. tarek_f - Congrats on a successful FET! I think its still really early in the pregnancy & its great that you were able to see a hb so soon but it doesn't mean that the 2nd twin isn't viable, its just early. Have you had another appt since your last post?

As the proud mom of identical twin boys, we were also originally pg with triplets after transferring 2 blasts. However, the fraternal twin was over a week behind and even though we were able to see a hb at 7w4d, it was gone at 8w4d and just self absorbed. We were completely prepared for that and as a petite 38 yo woman felt that whatever was meant to be was going to happen. A triplet pg would have been very difficult on me physically. We are very blessed with our ID twin boys who were delivered healthy at 36w via c/s.

We are also planning on doing an FET this October 09 and will tx just one in hopes to have a singleton! But am very nervous about getting pg with identical twins again. My boys were a 2nd identical twin pregnancy for me, the 1st one was lost at 7.5 weeks and were mono/mono twins (very high risk), thankfully my boys were mono/di.

I hope to read you update soon!!
