heaviness in lower abdominal

  1. Hi everyone,

I was just wondering, I am 20weeks this week and I have had a feeling of heaviness in my lower abdominal when I stand on my feet. If i am sitting or laying i seem to be okay except for the occasional sharp pains. Is it because its twins and its harder to carry them or should I be concerned. I thought I would ask here first because my OB's nurse acts like I am a hypochondriac (sp?).

  2. Hi there!
I'm starting to feel a little pressure right above my pubic bone also & I'm only 18 1/2 weeks. I suspect it is b/c of the twins, but I've said something to a few people at work and their response was \"really? already?\" so I have stopped saying anything. I see my OB on Thurs & am going to ask him.

  3. I am 24 weeks and have been experiencing the same thing. I notice that is worse when the girls are both head down. I swear their heads are grinding on my pubic bone!

Still I suggest that you mention it to your OB at your next appointment--even sooner if the sensation gets stronger or painful. I mentioned it and was checked out....just the position of the girls, thankfully.

    HTH!

  4. I encourage you to get it checked out- have a transvaginal ultrasound if possible. I started having similar pressure at 20 weeks and it turned out my cervix had shortened to 2.5 cm. I have been on bed rest ever since...cervix continued to shorten, but I am now at 34w4d with my twins!

Hopefully yours is just pressure from their heads, but still, it doesn't hurt to have it checked!
    Good luck!!

  5. Well thanks everyone, I hope it is nothing. That really scares me. What happens if it is my cervix and it has shortened. How long do I have to get to the dr? I just had a tummy ultrasound on the 30th and all was okay. But the pressure and discomfort started over the weekend. We tried 12 years to get pregnant with these babies everything worries me..

    thanks

  6. Please call and get it checked. The worst they can do is say there is nothing wrong and the babies are fine. These are not your OB's nurse's babies, they are yours, so \"hypochondriac\" all you like. This is not the time to worry about what other people (besides your OB) think. The cervix is very dynamic. Mine shortened over half a cm in 5 days. Starry is correct, get the transvaginal if possible as it is generally more accurate. They couldn't get mine via the tummy as DS was parked directly over my cvx for the last 3 mos. of my pg. Drink a bunch of water to make sure you are hydrated and try to get as much rest as possible with your feet up. Good luck!

  7. hi everyone

Well i am venting now....so i took your advise and called my ob dr. The nurse just said there is nothing to worry about without checking me or anything. So I guess i just wait. I have an new patient apt with a perinatiologist on monday so i hope all is well until then.

  8. Sorry to hear your OB's nurse is a PITA. Glad to hear you have an appointment with a peri on Monday. Hope you have a good weekend and try not to stress too much.

I really think it's worth it, just in case. I'm not trying to scare you, it's just that over my time on these boards I've heard/read about a lot of scary stuff happening (in particular where OBs have blown off patients' concerns), and I think it's always wise to err on the side of caution. For context, my (high risk) OB would NEVER have turned me down if I thought I needed to be checked or seen - don't let them bully you into thinking you're being difficult. You tried for 12 years - the stakes are really high here. Worst (best) case, they think you're paranoid - who cares??

  10. Hopeful-that totally sux.
Can you call and ask to speak with another nurse? Can you call on the weekend? When I call on the weekend it automatically goes to one of the OBs on call. It might get you a trip to L&D, but it WILL get you a cervical check.....

    Hang in there!

ETA: I agree w/ Minnefer...you've waited a long time for this and s.crew that nurse

  11. Well I took your advise and I called the perinatologist and she was way nicer than the ob drs office. She is getting me in tomorrow morning at 10:30. Thank goodness.

    Thank you everyone for everything

  12. Hopeful, glad the peri can get you in tomorrow. I forgot today was only Wednesday. The others are right. The stakes are too high to worry about what an OB's nurse thinks. BTW, my peri group was like bornat's. I called to try and get an appointment moved up one day due to pelvic heaviness and they sent me to L&D on the spot for a check. Please let us know how you make out tomorrow.

  13. Hopeful,

I am so glad you will be seen tomorrow morning!! I love my peri- he always takes my concerns seriously, and understands how high the stakes are. I hope all goes well with your appointment!

    Hang in there!

  14. Thanks everyone for your support, I went to the perinatologist and everything looks good thank gosh, babies are perfect and I still have a long cervix. He did say nobody can really predict preterm labor but as of now everything looks good. YEAH! I do appreciate all of your encouragement.

Yay! So glad everything is fine - and now you can enjoy your weekend!

  16. Glad to hear things went well and you can have some peace over the weekend.

  17. So glad to hear that good news! Yay!

  18. Are you wearing a maternity belt yet? I know I had to get one early and it really was a great help with the heaviness. I wore it until my stomach was too big and the belt wouldn't fit any longer.

  19. No maternity belt, Where do you get one and do they help the heavy feeling?

  20. My mom bought mine. I think maybe at JcPennys. But I just googled it and they sale them at Target and motherhood maternity. So you shouldn't have a problem finding one. It does help hold up the belly. I used to live in mine.

  21. My peri just prescribed a maternity belt for me today ... he said with an Rx you can get your insurance to pay for it.
