  1. I'm just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone, or if you have heard of this happening?

My History: May 28th had U/S at 6w2d and it revealed pregnacy in the left tube - Seen on u/s sac and small baby. Had emergency surgery that night (two weeks ago).

So i just wanted to see what you ladies i over-reacting, should i worry???

My Dr. that did my surgery (tubal ligation / salpingectomy) -removal of ectopic pg. and both tubes (this is 2nd ectopic) just called me at work to let me know that the pathology report from my left falopian tube came back (the tube that the pg was in). He said he is really concerned because it came back with "no fetal tissue" remains in it?????

His concern is where did it go - he figures one of the following:

*It has fallen into the pelvic region when he was pulling the tube out of the little insicion.
    - It will either be re-absorbed by my body
    - It could possibly have been sucked up with the suction machine
    - Or it very rarely could attach to an organ within my pelvic region ie: bowels etc. Which would cause a lot of problems.
He wants me to have my hcg tested next week - If it has attached to something the hcg will remain elevated (low) but elevated in my system. If it hits 0 - Then it should be ok.

I cannot believe this - I have never ever heard of this happening??? Has anyone else? Should i be worried?

Sorry for the vent, i just need some advice.

  2. OMG. I never had that happened (I thought they gave a shot to dissolve the pregnancy for ecoptic). But that is just horrible that it may still be in there and growing somewhere else. I pray that your betas go down and they got it with the suction machine.

  3. Amy,
First of all, I am so sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. As if that is not difficult enough, you must be so frustrated at this news of them finding no fetal tissue. I had a similar situation about five years ago. It was my third ectopic and I had a lap done. They went in and removed what they thought was the pg from my left tube. Well, the next day they told me the tissue they collected was not fetal tissue. I was amazed by this. My hcg was still rising so I went immediately into surgery. They found the pg in my other tube. I guess they didn't see it the first time. Duh. Anyway, I hope your hcg numbers will continue to drop. I hope if he did drop anything, your body will reabsorb it. Best wishes to you and I will pray for your quick healing.

  4. Hi Amy,

I am really sorry to hear about your loss. I had a situation where they saw a pseudo-sac in my uterus and did a D&C to remove it thinking it was a gestational sac. The histopathology revealed no fetal tissue and do I was treated with Methotrexate injection(chemotherapeutic drug) assuming that the real pregnancy was either in the tube or abdomen. My HCG levels then started going down and it took about 4 weeks for them to hit 0.
    Hope that helps.

  5. Hi Amy-

I was just going to post a question about a 2nd ectopic that I think I may be dealing with and saw your post. I just wanted to say how sorry I am that this is going on. I would explore with them whether it makes sense to take methotextrate just in case it is still in your body, but I do not know if that would work. What a nightmare.....I just can't believe what you are going through. I would demand an immediate consult on this also and if there are a few doctors in your practice, ask that they meet about this and come up with your options.

    Again, I am so sorry.

  6. Thank you all so very much for your comments and advice - I appreciate it.

For those of you that have experienced an ectopic or loss, i too am sorry you had to experience this.

I have a follow up with my RE tomorrow regarding what our next steps are for a FRESH cycle, as for the ectopic i have to have blood work done this week with my OBGYN - He is the one who performed the surgery.
It\'s kind of confusing, but with the fertility clinic they release you as soon as you have your transfer, just to inform them what the outcome is.....then we are to do our next prenatal care with our regular family physician.

Well thanks again and i will be sure to keep you all posted on the has been 17 days since the surgery and i received another positive hpt, however it was very very light, i can only hope that by this week they will be negative and i can just focus on the next cycle!

    Thanks again girls!
