IVF Pregnancy Information

   My twins were in the NICU being bottle fed for 10 days and didn't really have a chance to learn how to properly latch on. I've been pumping but supply is limited...so I am have to use formula for 1/2 the feedings.

   They have been home for 3 days now and I tried to BF with no success. I became engourged and went back to pumping.

   Anyone have experience with getting a baby to latch after being bottle fed or with supply issues?

   Having both these problems makes me think the bfing will be very difficult for me...esp with twins.

   Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

   First of all congrats on the twins!!

   Bf is not an easy task. My twins weren't that little and weren't in the NICU that long, so I probably can't offer the best advice just support. One was in the NICU for about 4 days and she latched on the best. The other had a difficult time, and I just kept trying, and pumping and supplementing. Eventually I was able to tandum nurse.

   The lacation specialist at the hospital was a big help for me.

   All I can say is if at first you can't suceed, try, try again.

   I wanted to suggest trying a nipple shield to help them latch. Make sure you get one that fits your nipple well (shouldn't be too big or too small). A LC should be able to help you with this. I think they carry a couple sizes at BRU. My DS wasn't in the NICU, but he was tongue tied and was clipped and couldn't nurse easily. The nipple shield made a world of difference and we slowly weaned off of it in a couple of weeks. Good luck to you!
