  1. Has anyone cycled with SDFC and been successful with DE cycle?

    If so...
    - How many DE cycles at SDFC before BFP?
    - Were you successful on the fresh or FET?
    - Was your donor proven or unproven?

Thanks for sharing as there are several women who are going to cycle soon with SDFC and need some inspiration.

  2. Donnie, I am interested too. I am between SDFC and ORM. Leaning heavily towards SDFC. Was at Boston IVF. I am thinking of doing their success guarantee program.

  3. Hi Christie-
I am going to be cycling at SDFC as they have good success rates for DE cycles according to SART. 80% success rate.

I am doing the success guarantee program with SDFC.

  4. I've posted my SDFC story here many times, but I'll share again. I can't say enough good things about our experience there. We only live an hour away though, so we didn't have to travel. We did not do the success program because of the high success rate and we don't have any uterine or sperm issues, so I was sure we would have success with a proven donor. I was right. We chose a twice proven donor, 22 years old, from the in-house pool. We got 13 perfect blasts. Transferred 2 on the fresh cycle and got pregnant, but had an early loss. Dr. K ordered a repeat loss panel even though it was my only unexplained loss. Turns out I have a clotting disorder, so I did Lovenox injections with the FET (2 blasts again). I just gave birth to a perfect baby girl from that cycle. We have 9 frozen blasts left over.

One thing I would suggest is the fertility acupuncture that's right in the same building as SDFC. They're at acufertility.com. I had acu once a week during my cycles and then before and after my transfers. It was nice and relaxing, the girls there are so nice, and it may have helped, who knows.

  5. Dina's story is a testimony to SDFC. Dina, thank you for sharing. You helped me with the SDFC decision sometime ago.

Donnie, I am going to do it as well. I was at a cocktail party last night and it must have been a sign....here I am in New England and there was a houseguest of a guest who brought her 7 month old baby girl...absolutely adorable. She asked if I had kids, etc. I had had 2 gin and tonics so I told her my story...turns out, she is from San Diego and her best friend just had twins cycling at SDFC. Her other friend is on the 2 ww. I believe in signs!!!

  6. Another thumbs up to SDFC.

We had our phone consultation May 2008 with Dr. H. Matched immediately in June, and cycled in the end of August. We chose a two-time proven donor who gave us our beautiful son and six more frozen six-day embryos for potential sibling(s). We don't have uterus and sperm issues and got lucky on our first fresh cycle with elective single embryo transfer. Can not say enough good thing about the entire medical team and their lab.

  7. I also have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with SDFC! It was a tough decision to venture into the DE world. I did a lot of research. I was very discouraged by my local options so made the decision to travel to SD. I absolutely have NO REGRETS. I realize everyone has their own experience so I can only atest to mine. I felt everything about my experience from initial contact call with donor liason, consult with Dr. H, correspondance with the DE nurse, interaction with office staff, billing, personal and professional care once I arrived, ect. was seamless. I am very picky too.

We chose a proven donor, 23 years old. We did not do the success guarentee because of thier success rates. BFP on fresh transfer. Sadly had a m/c at 9 weeks. Dr. H was so incredibly compassionate. I swear talking to him over the phone made me feel as if I was being hugged. ( Hokey I know). We did some tests to rule out a blood clotting disorder, but everything came back within normal limits. I did a FET in early January. I did have to pay for the FET cycle. I think it was less than 3500. Since I was doing out of town monitoring, they gave me a bit of a credit. Currently 35 weeks with twin boys. We have 8 frozen's left. The lab is excellent! I think that also makes a huge difference especially when it comes to FET's.

Wish everyone the best no matter what you decide. I know it's been a bit discuraging lately that 2-3 girls this summer had BFN's from their DE cycles at SDFC.

    HI WINTER!!!

  8. Hi ladies,
thank you for your reply. I am cycling next month and yes, have been feeling a bit nervous with some of the recent bfn in fresh cycles from a few ladies cycling this summer.

I have selected an unproven donor as there were very few Asians available in-house. I feel good about here, but noticed each of you were successful with proven donors.

Do you know of any ladies who have been successful on de cycle with first time donors?

Also, two of you mentioned blood clot disorder. Is that common? What exactly does it do and how do you know if you have it?
is it something that can be tested prior to cycling?

    hi Christie,

that is a good sign! I am glad this thread was helpful in bringing inspiration to us ladies about to embark on our first de cycle!

I know one lady from SDFC used a 28 year old first time Chinese donor, and had success in her first fresh cycle. Her son is now 7 months old and they also have four more frozen embryos left. If fact, it was this lady who pointed me to SDFC and we were extremely grateful to her and the medical staff there. The donor did participate in their egg banking program prior, which she produced around 12+ eggs -- forget exactly how many. After that cycle, she continued to cycle for three more times last year and all produced pregnancy. I did not follow her story, so don't know if she still cycled there.

I know there are so few Asian donors available. It is just another hurdle for Asian IPs to face. Another reason I like SDFC is its location. There are larger Asian concentration in the West coast, so perhaps posting an ad at local university can be a way to go. I've heard SDFC had very good screening mechnism to have some level of predictability of how well a donor would respond. So if there were no suitable proven donor, I might try to use their non-proven one. I would buy their shared-risk plan in that case.

    Good luck on your cycle!

Michelle, hello to you! congratulations on the 35 weeks mark! You must be getting huge and very excited. Try to get some sleep now, as soon you will be hands-full with two little ones!

  11. Hi ferda! I chose a first time donor at SDFC along with their shared risk success guarantee option. I cycle in 3 weeks. Thanks again for your help and congrats on your success!

Nika...congrats on your pregnancy! Get your rest as the babies are coming soon.

  12. Donnie,
one of the girls I cycled with last summer who went to SDFC used a first time/unproven donor and had her baby in April. They do have an excellent donor screening and assessment process. Just try to keep in the back of your mind odds are excellent...in your favor BUT they are not 100%. I don't mean to discourage you one bit. I just say that to help you with self preservation. It can really knock the wind out of a girl to have DE failure. Remember odds are sooooo much better regardless.
Clotting disorders are not that common but they do happen. Docs don't usually test unless you've had recurrent m/c or sig history. I think ( my opinion only not solely based on fact) is that the baby aspirin and high folate supplement SDFC uses are helpful for borderline cases. That is only my opinion. I continued to take baby aspirin and 4mg extra folic acid throughout.
Very excited for you that you found a donor and are ready to take that next step in just a few weeks.

    all the best to you!
    Michelle

    Hi Michelle-
I am going into this process cautiously optimistic since I have had 4 failed IVFs I know how crushing it can be to place so much hope that this is "the one". Thank you for the advice...I do appreciate it.

Did Dr. H do anything different for your FET cycle in terms of prescribed meds or supplements than what you were on during your fresh?

BTW, how are you feeling with expecting twins? Must be exciting!

    Best,
    Donnie
