  1. Hello,

Wow Sara, Hope everything goes well with peri. Per my experience with peri, as soon as he determined that I need CVS done, he was able to do it in the next several business days. He was booked, but he fit me in. Hopefully if necessary the peri you see will be very flexible as well.

About me. Today I am 13w2d. Had a CVS test done for both babies. There will be 2 separate tests done. Both tests are very specific to my case. Results for the 1st test should be ready in 10 days. It can take up till 4 weeks to get the results for the 2nd test.
When I got pg I was only 100 lbs. Although both babies measuring bigger than normal range, I am not showing. I also think I felt babies moving couple of days ago .

    Best wishes

  2. Hi everyone,

    Can I join you?

My gestational surrogate is pregnant for DH and I. We just found out today at her 9w3d u/s that it is twins! We were completely shocked because at the 7w3d appt. the Dr. had only seen one. We transferred 3, but I'm 39 and this was my 9th fresh IVF (not to mention I don't know how many FET's). We had actually planned to transfer to both she and I on this cycle, but my lining ended up being too thin so we just transferred to her.

I'm really excited but also driving myself crazy with worry already.
We had a first OB appt. right after getting released from the RE today.
We don't live in the same state so my surrogate figured we should meet the OB while we're out here. Anyway, he did a pap smear on her. I didn't even think to question it because I'm clueless on what the normal procedures are in pregnancy. The farthest I ever made it with a h/b was 8 weeks. Anyway, now I'm reading all this scary stuff about miscarriages after pap smears.
Help? Did all of you have a pap smear done this early? I'm so mad at myself for not questioning it.

  3. Staci -
The hardest thing to do is NOT read info on the internet, but I can tell you from personal experience that I had a pap early with my last pregnancy, and had absolutely no complications (carried until 39 weeks until I asked to be induced). I had a CVS this week (1 vaginally, 2 abdominally), and I think the vaginal CVS was MUCH more invasive than a pap. She should be just fine, but I'm sending positive vibes your way!

    Other twin moms -
I would like to join your group...I am pregnant with triplets (12weeks,5 days), but we found out after a CVS this week (2 day result to answer Sara's previous question; he did the CVS on the spot when he saw something questionable on the u/s) that Baby B has Trisomy 18, and she's not going to make it. So, now we need to refocus and be excited about our twin boys. We also have a 16 month old son, so I'm definitely going to be outnumbered.

I look forward to getting to know you guys

  4. Staci-I think it's fairly common for OBs to do a pap around that time. I would have had one with my DS (almost 4) but I had just had one within the last year and my insurance at the time wouldn't have paid for it. I had one at about 11 weeks with my last twins and had a very aggressive nurse practicioner do it and bled for about 3 days afterwards. After that I had no problems until my water broke at 21 weeks, which had NOTHING to do with my pap 10 weeks earlier. This time around, my OB was VERY gentle and did one last week (10 weeks) and I had the tiniest bit of brown spotting mixed with discharge and no other problems.

Kelly-I'm sorry to hear about Baby B's diagnosis. I hope the other two continue to do well and that you have no further complications. Are they going to reduce Baby B or just leave her alone?

AFM, I've been feeling the little gummy bears moving a little bit each day. Kind of just a little thump once in awhile, it feels very cool! I'm really trying to take it easy. When I stand for longer than a few minutes, I can feel the pressure on my cervix and it feels like it's just going to fall out! It freaks me out, so I try and spend as much time sitting or lying down as I can.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

  5. The doc talked about reducing baby b, but he thought there would be a greater risk to the pregnancy than letting her be (thank God, b/c I personally don't think I could do it!). He doesn't think she'll make it much longer b/c there is such a large amt of fluid around her (edema), indicating heart failure. They rarely make it much past the first trimester when it's this severe. The body will simply \"reabsorb\" her and it shouldn't affect baby a or baby c. It's sad, though, b/c when I went to my OB yesterday, she was still hanging in there

I keep wondering if I feel the babies move. It was much later with my singleton son, but every once in a while I'll feel a little flutter.

  6. Hello,

    Welcome Kelly & Staci,

Kelly, I am so sorry. I am a carries of chromosomal translocation and as a result I have many loses due to the chromosomal combinations. I went through CVS last week and currently waiting for the results. I know, there is nothing I can say to make you feel better. Wish 2 other babies that you are caring will make it through. Best wishes.

    Good Luck,

  7. dimash -
Thanks for your kind words. I'll definitely be thinking of you and getting the results of your CVS. I was terrified, and I was lucky enough to get the results back quickly. Other than having to wait, how are you feeling?

    Kelly

  8. Oh, my....what more could happen? My OB's nurse called me yesterday and said my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level was really low, which means my thyroid is working overtime (hyperthyroid). Well no wonder I haven't gained any weight yet! So now I have to see my family doctor who I'm hoping will just send me off to an endocrinologist because after talking with a friend who has thyroid problems, she said having an overactive (or underactive) thyroid during pregnancy can cause a lot of complications. GREAT. Can you believe this?!?! So now I'll be seeing my OB, my peri for the cerclage, and now someone for my freaking thyroid!

Does anyone have any experience with a hyperthyroid?

How is everyone feeling? The yucky feeling has almost completely gone away for me--yay!!

  9. Hello,

    Hopefully everyone is doing well.

Sara, WOW… I am speechless. I am so sorry. On the positive note, it is good that they caught it early in the pg. Hopefully, the DR will be able to get it under control with no complications. Just to let you know, at 14 weeks I did not gain much weight either (I was underweight before). Neither peri nor my doctor saw any issue with it that early in the pregnancy.

    Best wishes,

  10. Thanks for the reassurance everyone. My GS is doing fine and had no problems after the pap. Right now I'm just nervously waiting for her next appt. in 8 days.

    Sara,

Sorry about the additional stressful news. Like dimash said, it's good news that they did catch it so early and hopefully they can get it under control quickly for you.

    Kelly,

Sorry to hear about Baby B. I know how upsetting it must be.

    dimash,

How long do the CVS results normally take? It's got to be nervewracking waiting for them.

    GS is 10 weeks

  11. Hello to All,

Just wanted to post and update.
Today I got 1st set of the CVS results. I will have to wait for 2nd set of the results for 2 to 3 weeks.
The 1st set of the results was somewhat good. The test results show no other chromosomal abnormalities expect translocation. Both babies are carrier of my translocation. It means that both babies most likely will only inherit problems that I have: Severe Infertility. It should be a good outcome for the person with my condition, but for some reason I cannot stop crying. I had a 50% chance that each baby would be normal. But both babies have a translocation. It means many chemical pregnancies, m/cs, failed IVF cycles and possibility of no kids at all. How many times I tried to encourage someone else by saying that in 25 years translocation may even not be a problem. But now, it does not make me feel better.
I know that with only 5% of viable eggs I should be happy to be pregnant at all. I know, there are many women with my condition would want to be in my shoes right now.
But I had a chance to give my kids a better future and I failed.

    Best wishes to All

  12. dimash,

I'm really sorry about the test results, but please try not to let it overshadow your happiness. It sounds like you're being really hard on yourself. I think what you had been telling other people with this issue makes sense. Just look how much reproductive technology has advanced over the last 10 years. There may be any number of ways infertility for this reason could be resolved when they get older. It's good news that no other chromosomal abnormalities were found. I'm just sorry you're having to deal with this other issue.

I\'m sorry to hear about your CVS results. It sounds like you had really hoped to break the cycle and not pass this trait on. That's great news that there are no other chromosomal abnormalities!! Keep your spirits up We're here if you need to vent!

Thanks everyone for your support with Baby B. I have another peri appt. next Wed to see how everyone is doing.

    Hope everyone is doing well

  14. Hello,

Thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.

    How everyone is doing?

Staci, how is your GS is doing?
Sara, how did it go with peri?
Kelly, Laura, okan, Kotsilas, how are you?

About Me. Today I had OBG appointment. I still have 2 hart beats. . Start showing. It is about time. Thinking of starting telling people. Strangely, no one has noticed by “big” belly so far.

    Best wishes,

    Tomorrow 16w.

  15. dimash--nobody has noticed and you're 16 weeks?! Wow. I'm 2 days shy of 14 weeks and people are definitely noticing (could be that this is my 3rd pregnancy). Glad you got to hear you still have two heartbeats!

I'm going for my cerclage tomorrow at 1:00. I can't have any food or drink after midnight tonight so DH is making me a big snack around 11:45 p.m. and then I will hopefully not be so famished. I had a great u/s at the peri's office on Thursday, and the tech tried to look between their legs but I was only 13 weeks so she couldn't tell what they were. My cervix looked very long so that's good for the cerclage.

I had my thyroid levels checked again today so I should get the results back for that tomorrow. Hopefully it just continues to get better because I don't want to have to take any medication for that. It's fine to take during pregnancy, but you can't breastfeed while on it, so I'm hoping it doesn't come to that (assuming I make it far enough in the pregnancy to have babies I can breast feed, obviously not a given with me).

How is everyone else doing? Has anybody bought anything for their babies yet?

    Sara 13w4d

  16. Hi Sara,

Good to you today. Keep us posted.

    Best wishes

  17. Hi all,

dimash-- Congrats on the great u/s. That is awesome that you are still not showing. I swear at 14w4d it is impossible to not notice my belly! And I'm definitely past the bella band stage as my pre-preggo pants aren't even looking right anymore with the band on!

Sara-- Good luck with the cerclage today. Hopefully that could relieve some of the worry. We haven't bought anything for the bebes yet... I was scared to even write in the journal I bought for them until this week (superstitious I guess...). But my girlfriend from college sent me two onesies that say \"I love my wombmate\" on them. They are very cute :-)

AFM, we got the results of our UltraScreen test last week and everything came back negative. That was a huge load off. We also had our u/s last Thursday and both babies were doing well will h/bs of 148 and 160. DH even saw one of them punch the other one... witness to their first fight We go back next Thurs for an u/s for her to check my cervix again. I'll be about 16 weeks then (15w6d)... is that too early for them to see the sex? Do I really have to wait until 20 weeks... it's like torture!!!

    Laura
    14w4d

  18. Laura--at my last u/s (13 weeks) the u/s tech said she can usually tell at 16 weeks! So you may be finding out what they are then! She even tried to look then, and thought she saw a boy, but then when it moved she couldn't tell. But if you have a nice u/s tech you should be able to find out then!! So exciting!! Oh, and too cute about the wombmates onesies. When I was pg with twins last time I wanted to get Thing 1 and Thing 2 onesies--they were so cute! I hope I'll be able to get them this time.

Ugh, I'm so thirsty and starting to get hungry too. I have to be there at 10:45 to start the IV and foley catheter and some other meds, but the procedure isn't until 1:00. I think I'm going to waste away! It's torture to make a pregnant woman (with twins no less) wait that long without food or water!!

I'll let everyone know how it went later. I should be able to come home this evening.
    Sara

  19. Sara, how are you felling after the procedure? Hope it went very well yesterday

  20. Hi everyone. I'm doing pretty well today. It was a very long day yesterday, and I didn't get home until after 10:00. The procedure only took 5-10 minutes and the doctor said it went well and he had plenty of cervix to work with. The reason I had to stay so long afterwards was because the stinking spinal wouldn't wear off! I couldn't walk or pee for many hours afterwards. I finally got up to pee around 8:30 in the evening and even then it took me forever to get it going. I was pretty crampy last night and had Tylenol 3 to take for the pain, but I let that wear off around 5:00 this morning. I have been pretty much pain free today as long as I'm lying down, but then just before supper I started to feel some cramping again so I took one regular extra strength Tylenol and now I feel better. I have had very minimal spotting and it's all brown so I think my cervix is done bleeding. Now I'm just worried that I haven't felt the babies move at all today. They did an u/s at the hospital after the procedure and the babies were moving all over the place (I still had the spinal then so I definitely couldn't feel them) but today I'm worried that something has happened. It's silly, I know. I can wait until next Thursday when I see my OB....I think!

I'm supposed to lie around for a few days and then gradually add in some light activity. I'll probably start with a quick run to the store for some paint on Saturday. My DH and MIL are going to work on painting our basement on Sunday. We're working on getting it finished so we can double our square-footage and have more room for these babies! Hopefully I can get that far in my pregnancy this time because I would love the full house!

    Thanks for the well-wishes everyone!
    Sara

  21. I am very glad that this procedure went OK. Hopefully you will feel the babies’ moves very soon.

    Best wishes

  22. Congrats Sara... glad it went well!

  23. Sara,

Glad to hear everything went smoothly!

Everything is going okay with me. We had a big scare last week where my GC went for her first U/S with the OB (prior ones were done at RE's office) at 11 weeks 1 day and she called to tell me that he couldn't find anything at all after trying both an abdominal than a transvaginal u/s. I was in a panic. Fortunately, my RE's office was able to get her in for an U/S a couple hours later and the RE found both with strong h/b's and everything looking just fine. Phew! The OB wasn't sure why it happened....he said maybe his equipment.

We\'re going out to Vegas (where my GC is and where we did the IVF) for the first trimester screening on Tues. When the place that's doing it found out she was a GC and that advanced maternal age is involved, they said I should definitely go for that appt. so that I can speak with the genetic counselor, talk with the high risk Dr. who will see her along with the OB, etc.

I'm starting to get the usual fear and anxiety that they'll do the u/s and there will have been a missed m/c.

Did any of you do this first trimester screening? Did you do the bloodwork portion? I think I read somewhere that it can be less accurate with multiples? I'm praying the results will end up looking good enough to support my preference not to do an amnio. I'm just too afraid of the risk...even though it's probably only like 1%, I have to compare that to the 0% chance of another pregnancy happening for us.

    Laura,

Is the ultrascreen test the same as first trimester screening?

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Staci

  25. Hi Staci,

Good Luck to you and your GC.

I did complete 1st trimester screening including CVS on both babies due to my BT. 1st trimester blood work are screening only for trisomy 21 & 18. Unfortunately, there are other chromosomal abnormalities that baby can be born with. It is trisomy 13 and monosomy 21. These 2 are so rare and majority will end with early m/c.
It is true that blood work screening with multiples is not accurate because mother’s blood contains ‘cells’ of both babies. If only 1 baby has chromosomal issue, the blood test would not be as abnormal.
At the end I opted blood work and did the CVS. However with BT I had other problems to worry about. There is no blood test to test for those.

    Best of Luck
